5 Holiday Entertaining Must-Haves for Your Custom Home
Welcome to our most festive Custom Home Building Blog yet! We are feeling the holiday season this year, so we wanted to share 5 custom home features that you’ll love having in your new construction home, especially when hosting for the holidays.
Oklahoma homeowners love any excuse to host and show off their custom homes. Here are 5 design features to consider when building your customized home that are sure to impress your guests and make for functional entertaining.
ENTERTAINING LIVING SPACES- BONUS ROOMS & FLEX SPACES
We love an oversized main living room, but what’s even better is having a bonus living room for entertaining. Our Crystal Lake plan has a gorgeous open-concept living room on the main level that seamlessly transitions to the upstairs Bonus Room. Picture inviting friends and family over to enjoy time and fellowship in the main living room and then inviting them upstairs to watch a movie on the home theater system, play board games, or exchange gifts under the tree.
A WALK-IN PANTRY
A walk-in pantry makes holiday entertaining a no-brainer. It’s easy to tuck away messy jobs in a functional and spacious walk-in pantry. You can choose to include a second sink in your pantry or you can even opt to include an extra refrigerator, beverage refrigerator, or second dishwasher in this space.
A walk-in pantry offers plenty of storage for perishables and you can even stow dishes away in this space so your kitchen will feel open, clean, and clutter-free.
SEAMLESS INDOOR/OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING & TERRIFIC BACKYARD VIEWS
Having multiple, easy-to-use doors to the backyard takes the pressure off holiday entertaining. Kids and adults can feel free to spread out and truly utilize your entire home. This opens up opportunities for conversations and memory making.
You can customize your outdoor covered patio to include an outdoor fireplace or fire pit to keep your home feeling cozy inside and out, no matter the weather. You can even dress this space with cozy blankets. If you choose to include an outdoor kitchen, adding a beverage fridge to this space is a great idea!
Having floor-to-ceiling windows in the rear of the home is a great choice because it allows adults to keep an eye on children in the backyard and invites stellar, relaxing views of your landscaping and natural surroundings.
AN ARRAY OF SEATING OPTIONS
Your floor plan should allow plenty of room for a multitude of seating options. A spacious living room, like the one in our Crystal Lake plan, is large enough to include plushy, oversized furniture. The kitchen features a double-island with several seats at the bar.
The kitchen is large enough to feature a formal dining room table, or you can choose to customize built-in benches for elevated seating options. The Bonus room upstairs is also roomy enough to add large couches, armchairs, or theater seating. There’s also plenty of space on the covered patio for outdoor chaises, chairs, and hammocks.
CENTRALLY LOCATED BATHROOMS WITHIN YOUR FLOOR PLAN
Having bathrooms adjacent to your living spaces makes an ideal floor plan when entertaining. When positioning your bathrooms in your custom home, make sure you have one near the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. If you have a pool, you’ll also want to consider a pool bath, or something that’s not too far from the pool.
We also like to consider entryways when we position the bathrooms, and think it’s a great idea to have a bathroom that’s not too far from each entryway. A great home designer like the ones at Creative Home Designs can help you design a floor plan that’s functional and makes sense for every member of your family, including your visitors.
