5 Terrific Custom Home Organization Ideas

Every home should have a flow that makes sense and a touch of organization. This keeps your home cozy, sightly, and ensures that you know where items are located when you need them. When building a custom home, there are a few things you can add to your floor plan to help with the flow of your day to day life. Avoid frustrating mornings and endless hunts and searches by utilizing our helpful organization tips and tricks.

Here are 5 custom home organization ideas to keep your home feeling tidy.

Our “Callahan” floor plan has a useful mudroom with a handy mud bench.

Mud Room

Our customers love that we can design a mudroom to meet their families’ needs that is both functional and organized. Consider adding a mudroom with a bench to your floor plan. Whether you have a 3-car garage or a tandem garage we can help you incorporate a thoughtful mudroom into your custom home layout that will be the ideal place to leave the mud and wet garments without tracking them into the rest of your home.

Entry

Don’t let clutter get past the entryway of your home. Many homeowners have an entry table that they use as a catch-all but don’t let it get out of control.

One strategy for keeping your entry table organized is to designate areas for each item and if there is not a space for the item it doesn’t get stored there. Designate a space for keyrings and use a divider for mail, one for personal mail and one for bills. Junk mail should go into the trash immediately.

*Tip- Place trash bins in each room of your home to make it simpler to throw away unneeded items and clutter.

Our “Callahan” plan also features lots of gorgeous cabinets for bathroom storage.

Bathroom

Our customers love lots of cabinet space in the bathroom. When designing your custom home consider separate vanity areas for his and hers with cabinetry beneath each sink. Another idea homebuilders are considering these days is adding a vanity area with space underneath for a chair. This maximizes counter space and a great place to display and organize your most-used products.

Remember that most medications and even makeup and face creams have an expiration date. Make it a routine habit to go through your toiletries and toss expired products. A lot of people will skip the bathroom organization and hold onto outdated items for many years. This creates clutter and hogs valuable space.

There is lots of lovely built-in storage in our “Callahan” plan.

Built-in Shelving

If you are building a custom home, why not add built-in storage? We love storage shelves on both sides of those show stopping fireplaces. This is a great place to store media or display photographs. Another favorite built-in shelving option is to add a deep walk-in pantry in the kitchen. You can also incorporate a built-in buffet in the dining area to display photographs or valued knick-knacks.

Maximize Cabinet and Drawer Space by Adding Plastic Sectionals for Each Drawer

Maximize your existing cabinet and drawer space by adding plastic sectionals for each drawer. This will help keep you from shoving and stacking items on top of one another. Having a “home” for each item makes sure everything stays neat and tidy. You will know when you are almost out of your favorite household items, when to buy replacements for them, and exactly where you’ll be storing that item.
