Five Thoughtful Kitchen Customizations for your Custom Built Home

When building a custom kitchen you may be overwhelmed with decisions and choices. Our customers love that we can help them design and plan their custom home and the layout of their unique kitchen.

Need some inspiration? Here are a few places to start so that when you approach your home designer you’ll already have some idea of what you’d like to create in your beautiful and efficient customized kitchen.

Our “Avondale” plan has a gorgeous double oven.

A Double Oven

Consider this question. What kind of cook or chef are you? If you love hosting family events with large feasts you may want to consider incorporating a double oven into your design plan. A double oven can be added in the kitchen proper or we can help you place it in your walk-in pantry or your Butler’s pantry (Read on for more about Butlers’ pantries).
A double oven setup is great if you want a convection oven as well as a conventional oven. What’s the difference? Convection ovens are designed with a fan that helps your food cook more evenly whereas a conventional oven has proven the better choice for baking. Why not have both with a double oven?

Our “Avondale” plan has a great drop-in sink located on the double-island.

A Drop-In Sink or Farmhouse Style Sink?

Consider what kind of sink you might like to have in your custom kitchen. If you have a larger family, a deep farmhouse style sink might be a great choice as it allows more space to pile unwashed dishes. Alternatively, a drop in sink might be a good choice if you want to add multiple sink attachments or want to showcase your gorgeous countertops. A third option is to add a three sectioned sink. The third sink section is used for food prep such as rinsing fruit or peeling potatoes. Make sure that the sink you choose will support your lifestyle and needs.

A Custom Kitchen Island

Modern homeowners love double-islands. Spacious kitchen islands are a great place to sit and gather for a low-key meal or for loved ones to relax and keep you company while you prepare food. How will you use your island? You can add barstools to one side of the island and even add a chair to the side of the island for a more interesting seating arrangement that will promote conversation.

You can also add a sink to your island so that you have a clear space with everything you’ll need to prepare your meal. Make sure that your island has adequate cabinets and drawers for everything you’ll want to store there. You can also consider adding a pot rack above the island or you can opt to place a lighting fixture there so you can really see what you’re doing while working in the kitchen.

Our “Rouge” floor plan includes a thoughtful Butlers’ Pantry

A Butler’s Pantry and a Walk-in Pantry

A popular addition to modern home designs is the incorporation of a deep walk-in pantry. Homebuyers these days look for at least one pantry for optimal kitchen and food storage. Homeowners love the freedom to buy canned goods and staples in bulk without the stress of where they will store the items. A pantry can really make the difference in the organization and flow of your custom kitchen.

Want to elevate things either further? Add a Butler’s Pantry. A true Butler’s Pantry is a walk-through pantry that connects the kitchen with the dining room. This is a traditional concept that allows homemakers to stash away dirty dishes so they can worry about them later and enjoy more time with their guests. You’ll want to add an extra sink and possibly even an extra dishwasher to this space for quick cleanups. This would also be a great place to place a refrigerator for storing large bowls of salad or desserts that need to chill so they are handy and ready to be served during meal time.
