How Wide Should My Hallways Be?

Do you ever feel you are suffocating in a small space? Imagine a hallway that is narrow and leads out into the depth of the woods not knowing what is around the corner. Well, here are some tips to help you with your decision on how wide your hallway should be. If you are looking to build and design your home in Tulsa or Oklahoma City, here are a few tips:

  • Do not build your hallway too narrow where it is hard to move large furniture around. Also, if you can afford high ceilings it can help to lift your hallway and remove that confined feeling.

  • Build your hallway at least 42 inches wide to give room for whatever you want to put on the sides of the hallway to uplift the space and still leave room to move in between.

  • Add some décor, such as a photo wall or artwork to lighten the hallway from just a boring old look. This will also give the hallway a sense of movement, which will help give the space a life of its own, instead of just being a portal between places.

  • Lastly, integrate a hidden lighting system to allow the light to create an atmosphere when walking through the hallway. Arrange the lights in a way, whether strobe lights, led strips, and/or lamps to capture and create the feel that you want your space to have.

Be very thoughtful about your hallways when designing or building your home. A well-sized hallway will delight your family and guests for years to come.
