3 Ways To Design Your Custom Home For Multi-Generational Living in Oklahoma

If your parents are aging out of independent living or your child is grown but facing challenges affording a home, a multi-generational home may be the solution. So how do you design a home for multiple generations to enjoy? A multi-generational home means there are two generations of adults living in the home. The professionals at Creative Home Designs can help you carefully design something that will work for everyone.  Here are 3 home design solutions that we love for our clients to consider when we are creating their custom multi-generational homes.

TWO MASTER BEDROOM SUITES

Adding an extra master suite into your design helps facilitate privacy and accommodations that will help avoid the stress of shared spaces. Ask your home designer to design your home so there are separate wings in your home. Adding private halls can also help make sure that each couple has enough privacy to truly enjoy their living situation. Consider soundproofing each suite and make sure each suite includes a master bathroom, a master closet, and is large enough to include a private sitting area.

IN-LAW SUITE OR GUEST SUITE

An in-law suite is a less opulent version of a master suite. An in-law suite would be perfect for an aging adult. It should include a private, en suite bathroom and at least a standard-sized closet. Consider designing a wheelchair-accessible bathroom in this suite and make sure that it is located on the first floor for accessibility.

ATTACHED APARTMENT

An attached or detached apartment is a great option for adult children who need privacy within a multi-generational home but don’t need any special accommodations. A kitchenette may be included in the attached apartment. This attached apartment will keep adult children close without feeling like you are living on top of each other. The attached apartment may also be comfortably listed on Airbnb when no one is occupying it and could be a source of income for your family.
