5 Clever Ways to Customize Your Master Closet

While you may not spend a large chunk of your day hanging out in your closet, it can really ruin the flow of your morning if you have to spend too much time looking for your work uniform or your favorite blouse.

Our customers love that we can help them create custom closet plans that meet their exact needs.

Here are 5 clever ideas to help you design and customize your master closet.

“His and Hers” Sections

One of my favorite master closet customizations is the sectional master closet. Many modern home plans come with “His and Hers” vanity areas in the master bathroom which, unlike a double vanity, are completely separate. We like these because they keep our clients happy!

Especially for a new couple that are accustomed to having their own home and are maybe reluctant to combine spaces and share everything. What if you could apply this same concept to your master closet?

Some individuals like to have real estate in the home that is their very own. If you’re anything like me, you just have to have your own closet space!

His and Hers sections help keep arguments about closet space from happening in the first place. No more stealing hangers from my side of the closet!

Tip: Another terrific option is adding a second master closet to your custom closet design.

Add a Bit of Light with a Small Window

A small window is one simple way to divide the closet into two areas. I love a window in the closet as it provides a little light to help me wake up in the morning and the natural light boosts mood. Many homeowners love to show off their magnificent closet to houseguests and a thoughtful window can really add a lot of elegance and class to help elevate and showcase this room. Ask your designer or builder about frosting or tinting the windows for integrated privacy.

Consider a Hidden Safe Room

A safe under the bed is one way to store valuables and a safe in the garage or bedroom is another option but what if you could have your very own hidden safe room? Homebuyers love a hidden safe room and what better place to install one than in the wall behind a rack of clothes? Store your jewelry, firearms, cash, and deeds in a hidden safe room behind a rack of old coats and no one will ever know that it’s there.

Connect your Master Closet to your Utility Room

Add some flow to your daily routine by linking your master closet to the utility room. This provides dual-entry to your bedroom, making it easier to sneak out in the morning and access the garage or kitchen without doubling back through the master bedroom and waking up your partner. Customize your home blueprint by making the master closet a walk-through also simplifies laundry day. Instead of carrying your clothing through the entire house, your closet will be steps away from your washing machine and make ironing or laundering a cinch.

Other Ways to Customize

There are so many options when it comes to customizing your perfect master closet. Add thoughtful built-in storage for shoes, jeans, hats, or whatever you collect the most of. You can even consider adding a built-in shelving or a built-in bureau. We can help connect you with a builder that can create a custom built-in dresser with a display shelf for jewelry or ties. We can even help you design an island in the middle of your closet which would double your storage space and make use of the middle of the closet which would otherwise go largely unused. The possibilities are endless!
