Building the Perfect Makeup and Vanity Set for That Special Someone

As a woman developing plans for my dream home the perfect bathroom is on the top of my list but more specifically I’m looking for the perfect makeup and vanity set. It’s every little girl’s dream to have a plush princess vanity and as an adult, it becomes harder for women to see to do their makeup so a designated space with great lighting is essential.

Vanity areas are in high demand. Make your master bathroom stand out with the perfect area to sit and primp.

Here are some ideas to transform that boring nook in your home into something that will be your wife’s favorite place to fix her hair and makeup.

Lighting is Everything

Choose lights that are natural and flatter your features. There is nothing worse than looking in the mirror in bad lighting that highlights each wrinkle and flaw.

You’ll want to avoid fluorescent lighting- no one looks good in this lighting and it can cause overapplication of makeup which can be embarrassing when you step outside.

Yellow Lights are also a no-go. They can make you look more tired than you feel and cause you to overapply as well.

Pink Lights do just the opposite: they make you look more radiant and can cause you to underapply makeup.

You’ll also want to avoid downlighting or lighting under the chin-line. This highlights every imperfection and will end up making you feel bad about yourself enough to cancel those date night plans.

Similarly, you’ll want to avoid harsh lights that are positioned directly overhead. Think about the lighting in the dressing room where lights hang directly above the stalls- it makes you look awful in just about everything. They do the same to highlight any imperfections.

You’ll want to opt for a warm or natural source of light. If natural light just isn’t an option the second-best option is a warm white light or an LED light.

Create cross illumination or side-lighting for best results. Again, you’ll want to avoid overhead lights only.

The Right Mirror

Choosing the right mirror matter of personal preference and taste but here are a few things to consider.

  • A double vanity feels disjointed for this kind of space- I like to be able to see the big picture.

  • A three-way mirror will work here but I often find them unnecessary and overwhelming.

  • Look for frameless mirrors with an anti-fog finish and a copper-free silver face for decreased corrosion.

  • Look for oval or round mirrors or rectangular mirrors that be hung both vertically or horizontally.

You can also add a smaller extendable mirror. Some extendable mirrors amplify up to 5x or more. This is great for women with waning eyesight and some even have built-in bulbs that simulate natural sunlight.

Choose something that meets your personal needs and matches the aesthetic and style of your space.

Flawless Features

When creating your wife’s dream vanity don’t forget every gal’s number one complaint: Not enough pockets in jeans!

This can also apply here. Make sure that you include enough cabinets and drawers to help your lady store all of her precious makeup.

The beauty industry is valued at $511 billion dollars and even if your wife doesn’t tell you how much- she spends a pretty penny on those powders and brushes and needs lots of personal storage to make sure the kids don’t rip into her Tom Ford foundation.

Trust me on this one!
