How to Design Your Dream Master Bedroom

You spend a lot of time in your master bedroom. It’s the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you’ll see before you go to sleep. You spend your mornings getting ready for your day in your master bedroom suite.

Making this a relaxing space will do wonders to increase your quality of life.

Here are 5 things to consider when designing your master bedroom.

PLANNING THE LAYOUT

SECURITY

Choosing a master bedroom on the first floor is ideal for many reasons. You’ll have a better feeling of security being on the first floor. You’ll be able to monitor your home’s entrances and can see who is in the kitchen or hanging out in the family room.

PRIVACY

Keep in mind that with a master suite on the first floor, you’ll be at eye level with your neighbors. Choose a layout that keeps privacy in mind. That could mean choosing privacy windows for your suite or adding furniture to block off certain areas of your home.

Some of the floor plans we create make the master suite the largest room on the first floor. Other floor plans include a private hall to help keep the master suite self-contained. [The experts at Creative Home Designers can design a floor plan that meets your individual needs and lot size.]

SIZE

When planning the layout of your master bedroom, consider the size of your furniture and how much space it will occupy. Think about the space between your furniture and end tables. Too little space between these items can make the space feel cramped.

CEILINGS

Consider what type of ceilings you might like to have in your master bedroom. Standard 9’ ceilings can make a space feel smaller and stuffy.

Would you like to opt for 10-foot (or taller) ceilings? Or do you think your master bedroom would look more impressive with vaulted or tray ceilings? The professionals at Creative Home Designers will be able to evaluate your floor plan ideas and let you know what is possible.

EN SUITE ADD-ONS

What else would you like to include as part of your master bedroom suite? Some of our clients request a sitting area in their bedroom. Others are happy with a gorgeous en suite master bathroom and master closet where they can spend time getting ready in the morning.

Many of our current clients like the option of adding a walk-through to the utility room for seamless laundry service. We can also work in an en-suite office or a built-in desk that can serve as a study space.

Think about what would simplify your day-to-day life. If you and your partner both have the same bathroom schedule, adding a powder room in the master bedroom’s private hall or wing can go a long way in making your mornings a breeze.
