Neighborhood Spotlight: Crown Heights-Edgemere Heights
Oklahoma City is the 6th fastest growing city in the United States and is ranked America’s 20th largest city. While newcomers scour OKC for digs in opulent neighborhoods, Crown Heights-Edgemere Heights remains a local’s best-kept secret. That is due, in part, to the hard work of the local neighborhood association, the Historic Preservation Commission, and the volunteers that help keep this district looking great and retaining its original charm and character.

LOCATION- “The Gem of Oklahoma City”
Crown Heights-Edgmere Heights, situated between Western Avenue & I-35 and North of NW 36 Street to NW 42nd Street in Oklahoma City, are highly sought-after places to live.
The oldest part of the district, Crown Heights, is situated just west of Walker Avenue and features homes built in the 30s by a successful developer named G.A. Nichols. Nichols also developed the gorgeous OKC neighborhood, Nichols Hills.
Homes in Crown Heights retain their value and tend to sell for more than homes on the Edgemere Heights side of the district because of Crown Heights’ Historic Preservation designation.
Crown Heights is located just 4 miles from downtown Oklahoma City. The average commute time for residents is under 30 minutes.

NEIGHBORHOOD CHARACTERISTICS
Crown Heights features Tudor revivals, Colonial revivals, Spanish Mission, and Art Deco-styled homes, those architectural styles being popular in the 30s when this neighborhood emerged. On the Edgemere Heights side are predominantly 1940s and 1950s ranch-style homes.
Crown Heights Park, nestled between Walker & Startel Avenues on NW 38th Street, is a gorgeous park and home to several annual neighborhood events. A pavilion, baseball park, playground, and plenty of room to stretch out and play make Crown Heights Park the perfect place to exercise and enjoy nature.
Crown Heights Park and plenty of other green spaces in the district, including lush, green meridians on the Shartel Avenue corridor and expansive, well-landscaped front lawns, enhance life quality and make this district a great place to call home.

HISTORY- “CLASS A HOMES” IN OKLAHOMA CITY
Crown Heights was once referred to as “Pill Hill” due to the number of wealthy doctors and physicians in the area and advertised by the developer as a neighborhood of “Class A Homes.”
Crown Heights was honored with a Historic Preservation District designation in 1995, making it a highly desirable place to live.

THINGS TO DO IN CROWN HEIGHTS-EDGEMERE HEIGHTS
The Western Avenue District, located on the westernmost border of the Crown Heights-Edgemere Heights boundaries, is a quickly rising area- there is so much to do!
A staple of Oklahoma, Guestroom Records is a great place to peruse vinyl records, CDs, and cassette tapes. Cock O’ The Walk and Sipango Lounge are popular local bars on this strip. Have an elevated meal and a nice glass of wine at Rococo, enjoy a sushi date at one of the two fine sushi restaurants, or relax with a cocktail at The Lobby Bar in Will Rogers Theater.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Residents of Crown Heights-Edgmere Heights formed a homeowners association in 1973.
The committee remains active and engaged in beautifying the neighborhood and enriching the lives of the community members and their families by hosting annual events, including Easter Egg Hunts, a chili fest, a kickball tournament, and even a haunted house competition.
